Being over 50 is not the end of the world. It’s just the new beginning on the next chapter of your life.
If you’ve ever wanted to write a book, today is the day to start. Who knows – you may write an Amazon bestseller!
Stop procrastinating – just do it. Writing is a great creative outlet for people of any age but if you’re over 50, it can be a career changer.
Get The Right Mindset
Stop saying to yourself “I can’t write” or “nobody will read my book” and start asking yourself “what if I right a book that changes somebody’s life”. Now wouldn’t that be powerful. Most writers are not going to win the Nobel Prize for Literature. An Oxford professor will never critique your work, so stop worrying. Your aim should be to entertain an audience. Change your attitude to writing and you’ll be free.
Join a writing club
Get with like minded souls who can help your writing journey. You don’t have to do this on your own. Check out a friend of mine’s writing club https://www.writingkindlebooks.com
It’s regularly updated with information on writing, author promotion, book marketing, social media marketing, how to write, genre selection, plotting, outlining – you name it’s here.
Write Your Book
Put pen to paper. It might not be a masterpiece but at least your writing career is under way. Don’t expect any sales but when they do come, celebrate by at least patting yourself on the back.
There are many online stores to sell your book. Being a self published indie author is the easiest way to start your writing career. Getting a publishing contract with a major house like Random House or Harper Collins is near on impossible if you are a newbie author. Going digital makes your journey so much easier as well but if you want to produce a paperback version of your book, CreateSpace and Ingram Spark provide a great print on demand (POD) service.
Amazon is your best bet for digital uploads. It has the biggest market place and pays well. Create your account on Amazon and set up your Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) account. It’s free! If you want to tap into other online stores like Apple iTunes, Nook (Barnes & Noble), Kobo or many others, use an aggregation service like Draft2Digital.com They house all of these stores and you only upload once.
If you need help on uploading to any of the above platforms, just google it and there are a ton of videos on YouTube. If that’s still beyond you, go to Fiverr.com, enter ‘upload a book to Amazon’ and you’ll have hundreds of people who’ll do it for you for around $5.
Buy Your Own Book
Amazon allows you to buy your own book. Yay, you’ve now made a sale. But don’t try to give yourself a 5 star review – Amazon won’t allow that.
Wait For Your Approval
Amazon takes up to 12 hours to approve your book. Apple can take up to a week while Nook and Kobo using take 48-72 hours.
You’re Now A Published Author
Yahooo! You’ve broken the toughest barrier. You are way ahead of 99.9% of people who want to write and publish a book. You are a hero!
So now it’s up to you. You can go it alone or join a club like Geoff’s https://www.writingkindlebooks.com You choose but whatever you do – START. The world needs stories from 50 year old + !Share
